10- Year Creator Anniversary! Midnight at the Cryo Lab

Happy Monday, All.

Blah, blah, blah...
That's right. Although I haven't uploaded in about four months and this project itself has been about two months in the undertaking, it's a milestone for me. In July of 2007, I made my very first upload at MTS. I've learned a LOT since that time, and I've rubbed elbows with the greats: Numenor, Echo, vind1care, NixNivis, Phaenoh, AudLuvsVegas, pixelhate, Fresh-Prince and many, many more that I've probably forgotten. I'm grateful for everything I've been taught. Love and respect to the end.

I hit another milestone in August, when I successfully completed my forty-fourth trip around Sol III. I'm one year older, and probably not very much wiser.

I'm a serial project abandoner. Years ago, when I built the Blue Heaven lots for which this site is named, I started a separate story blog called Blue Heaven Stories. I hit a creative wall after about three and a half years of keeping the story going, and left it unfinished. I started another story maybe a year later, called Harmony Station. Abandoned it after about Chapter 10. I shifted gears and started a medieval hood to test some fantasy/rustic adult poseboxes. That was the catalyst for a spurt of creativity that represented a couple of years of Sims 2 projects for both blogs, and a side project/ story blog called The Kingdom of Colton. You guessed it. My creativity suddenly hit a wall, and I just suddenly stopped working on all three projects.

Overview

The Midnight overproject represents a return to my roots: sci-fi stuff. I won't make any promises I can't keep, but I'm feeling inspired, and the first project is a good solid framework for the next few (probably much smaller) installments. My original vision was much like Modular Furniture Series 4. I wanted to build a whole set of objects, walls and floors, and build mode elements that blend seamlessly with each other. The difference is that whereas MFS4 was utopian and clean-ish, Midnight is more gritty, for creating sinister, dystopian sets. The objects are made from scratch by me, and thoroughly tested. The file includes:

Build Set: a door (plus coordinated diagonal object), three windows (plus coordinated diagonal objects), five deco wall panels that function like pictures, six wall lights, a ceiling light, deco edge hiders, a set of four fence types in six colors and a fence post light, six walls and six floors that seamlessly blend with the objects, two ladders, and two staircases.

Cinematic Tools: A posebox/ overlay box packed with special effects and a SMSP for posing sims

Cooling System: A set of 20 deco objects for cooling the cryo lab

Cryo Chambers: A set of six cryo chambers with special effects.

Lab Equipment: A giant deco console, a medium console with effects, three computers, a desk, a desk chair, and four hologram objects.

Recolors: Recolors of the base texture, tank, monitors, door and window glass, and hologram objects.

And of course a collection file.

Application

A sampling of the just some of the amazing sets you can create using this set. The giant cryo chamber is built with R2, the lab is built with R4, and the coolant room is built with R1.

  1. It looks great! Just perfect for my science fiction neighborhood.

  2. There are a lot of pieces in your set I had imagined myself making for my 'research facility'. I like the dark side of this set, and I promise I will be using some of the pieces from your set to add to my game. :D Thanks for sharing these with the rest of us. (and I confess your site was what inspired me in the first place to create my facility). I am in fact working on "set" now that I will share eventually.

Once again, thanks for sharing this!

    1. Thanks for the kind words. When I built Modular Furniture Series 4, one of the things that frustrated me was that nothing in the build mode catalog really matched it. With this set, I made walls, floors and doors to match everything, so that the build is truly seamless. I won't make any promises I can't keep, but if my creativity permits it I'll probably add a few more sets with even more objects in the near future.

I'd love to see what you come up with. If you post the pics of your build, please post a link!

  5. This is so AWESOME!!! And here I thought I was just gonna be blown away by your Star Trek stuff. Boy was I wrong. These would be perfect for a story/challenge I want to work on soon.

You know what's weird? I've been thinking about cryogenics for the past few weeks, and then you post this. Coincidence?

    1. Maybe so. I wanted to do another cryogenic-type thing for a while, but it seemed like I always had higher priority projects and it kept getting shelved. The sickbay set from MFS4 is a bit too shiny and happy; I wanted to make a darker-looking set. Hopefully in the near future I'll have some add-ons featuring types of science lab and/ or other parts of the space station (I envision these areas as being inside a huge space station).

If you publish anything, please share a link. I'd love to see your creations.

  8. Congratulations on your anniversary! 10 years is a seriously long time in TS2! My game would not be the same without your creations in it. Thank you for this wonderful set and for all your work for the Momma Lisa bodyshape! Like you, she's my favourite, too!

    1. Hi, Xia!

Thanks for the praise. I'm hoping to really develop the Midnight... overproject and flesh it out with more stuff. The cool science gear my simmies are using in the above pics is my next installment in the series, and I've got it about halfway done. It will of course have two new clothing meshes and a few accessory meshes for Momma Lisa.

  9. Congratulations on your ten-year anniversary! I had to go back and check when *I* made my first upload to MTS - and what do you know, it was in 2007, too, in June. Had NO idea it's been that long. And I'm honoured you'd think I belong in the same illustrious company as Numenor and Echo... not quite sure what you've been smoking, but honoured even so. ;)

And this is a seriously cool set. Me, sci-fi wise I'm still firmly rooted in the Trek universe, but there are several things here that IMO could fit in there as well, especially on worlds that aren't as well-behaved and polished as the Federation. :) (Or on backwater starbases that aren't as polished as Starfleet HQ, for that matter.) Thank you!

    1. Nix!!!!

Happy anniversary to you, too. I couldn't believe it myself; I actually had to go back and check. Of course you receive that level of recognition. Who else would have had the patience to teach me almost everything I know about accessory meshing? That's me talking, not the Grandaddy Purple.

I went into it trying to make it less genre-specific, so that it looks just as good on any random non-aligned world's central command center, on some distant space station, in some secret underground military base, or in any given supervillian's lair. It has practical applications for all of theme. It's kind of an evil lair starter kit.

Thanks for the praise, and I hope you enjoy it. More to come.
